Around 500 temples are located around the lake. Even today, Pushkar Lake is a prominent pilgrimage centre in Ajmer. Later, it became the regional headquarters of the Mughals. Then, Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, a Sufi saint settled down in the city. The Sufi saint had followers from all creeds. Even after his death, pilgrims visited his dargah to pay their respects to the saint.
