Let, Emma had $x$ apples intially.
Remaining apples after eating four $=x-4$

She distributed $x-4$ to five of her friends and each of her friends gets 6 apples
$\therefore \frac{(x-4)}{5}=6$

Multiply both the sides by 5
$\frac{(x-4)}{5}\times 5=6\times 5$
$\Rightarrow (x-4)=30$

Add 4 to both the sides
$x-4+4=30+4$
$x=34$

Hence, Emma had $34$ apples intially.
