“Employment structure is characterized by self-employment in the primary sector.” Explain the statement
Here the example of the primary sector is the agriculture sector. The most labor-absorbing sector of the economy is the Agriculture sector. In the Agriculture sector, the employment structure is characterized by self-employment. Although not all members of a family are needed to contribute to agriculture, still the whole family works and contributes to the agriculture field. This leads to the creation of disguised unemployment in the agriculture sector. Whatever is produced in the agriculture field, is shared by the entire family.
This system of sharing work in the agriculture sector and sharing the produce from the agriculture field reduces unemployment in the rural sector. However, it does not bring down poverty, which ultimately leads to the migration of people to large cities in search of employment in secondary and tertiary sectors.
