Oxidation of compounds

In respiration, oxidation of compounds such as glucose results in the formation of carbon dioxide.

During this process, energy is stored in the phosphate bond of the ATP.

Release of energy

The energy stored in the form of ATP is released whenever required by the cell. The breakdown of ATP into ADP and Pi, results from the breaking of phosphoanhydride bond which releases energy which can be utilized for various activities in the cell.
