Enlist and explain the properties of gases with examples.

  • Anything that occupies spaces and has mass is known as matter.
  • For example - table, chair, air, etc.
  • There are majorly three states of matter - solids, liquids, and gas based on the intermolecular distance between the constituent of matter.
  • Some properties of gases state are -
  1. Gases do not have a fixed shape. For example - Air takes the shape of a container.
  2. Gases do not have a fixed volume. For example - Take an inflated balloon, now try to squeeze it. Its volume will be reduced.
  3. Gases can be compressed easily. As shown above, an inflated balloon can be compressed easily.
  4. Gases have very low density. For example - a very small of air occupies a larger volume as compared to solids or liquids.
  5. Gases flow easily. For example - The smell of food kept on one side of the room can be felt on the other side.
