Pituitary glands are the glands located at the base of the brain. The different hormones released by the pituitary glands are:

1. Growth Hormone - Stimulates growth of bones.
2. Adrenocorticotropic hormone - Stimulates adrenal gland.
3. Thyroid stimulating hormone - Stimulates thyroid gland.
4. Prolactin - Stimulates milk production.
5. Follicle stimulating hormone - Controls growth of gonads.
6. Luteinizing hormone - Controls menstrual cycle and ovulation.
7. Oxytocin - Contracts uterus during parturition.
8. Antidiuretic hormone - Regulates water level in the body.

Hypothalamus is another gland that is located above the pituitary gland, in the forebrain. It secretes the hormones which control the activity of the secretory cells of the pituitary gland. Thus it controls the pituitary gland.
