The following are the factors that affect the pulse rate;
  1. Illness - Heart rate and consequently pulse rate increase to circulate more oxygen in the body during an illness.
  2. Physical exercise - During exercise, the demand for oxygen by the muscles increase and hence heart beat and pulse rate increase.
  3. Emotions - Certain hormones, such as adrenaline, released during stressful times increase the heart beat and pulse rate
  4. Drugs - Certain medicines and drugs act as stimulants to increase the heart beat.
  5. Cardiovascular diseases - A diseased heart tries harder to pump the blood and as such heart beat increases.
