Enlist the few uses of modern periodic table.

Open in App
Solution

The modern periodic table is an arrangement of all the elements known in accordance with their increasing atomic number and recurring chemical properties.

It is a tabular display of 118 chemical elements which consists of horizontal rows called periods and vertical columns are called groups.

The following are some uses of the modern periodic table:

  • It has made the study of known elements simpler and systematic.
  • The table completely separates metals from non-metals, metals are located on the left of the periodic table, and non-metals are located on the upper right. Also, they are separated by a diagonal band of semimetals.
  • By knowing the position of the element we can predict atomic number electronic configuration, valency, and properties.
  • The anomalies of the Mendeleev periodic table are the position of isotopes, and the incorrect positioning of some elements has been resolved in the modern Periodic table as it is based on atomic numbers.
