CH4+2O2CO2+2H2O;ΔH=x ......(i)

CH3OH+32O2CO2+2H2O;ΔH=y ......(ii)

Subtract equation (ii) from equation (i) to obtain

CH4+12O2CH3OH;ΔH=yx

But yx is negative.

Hence, x>y

Thus, option A is the correct answer.
