Solution

Matter changes from one state to another when the matter is either heated or cooled and the energy within the matter increases.

Solid to liquid:

When a solid changes to liquid the following changes occur in the matter -

  1. The intermolecular forces decrease.
  2. Distance between the particles of the matter increase.
  3. Kinetic energy of particles increase.
  4. fluidity of the particle increases.
  5. There is an increase in the compressibility.

Liquid to gas:

  1. The intermolecular forces between the molecules become negligible.
  2. Distance between the particles of the matter increase.
  3. Kinetic energy of particles increase.
  4. Fluidity of the particle maximizes.
  5. There is an increase in the compressibility.
