Solution

In the recent times, nature and natural resources have encountered tremendous pressure from the growing population. Population, in the past half-century has grown at an alarming rate and this has been coupled with an extremely high rate of development in the fields of science and technology. This has increased the pace of use of natural resources.

With the improvement in technology we can now utilise resources in more varied ways, which has led to the generation of enormous amounts of waste. Various industrial processes have increased the load of pollutants into the environment, more than it can handle on its own. Pressure on land has increased manifold, as it now has to fulfil the food requirements of the colossal human population. The spread of urban areas and agricultural land is increasingly claiming more and more forest land, which again contributes to air pollution as forests reduce pollution in one way or the other.
Thus, the increase in population and the development in science and technology has led to unprecedented rise in pollution. So, environmental pollution is a recent problem.
