In epithelial tissue the cells are closely packed without intercellular spaces.
Cells rest on basement membrane which is made up of a network of white, non-elastic collagen fibres.
This tissue has no blood supply. Some epithelial cells are involved in physiological processes such as respiratory gases exchange, absorption, secretion, etc., hence permeable.
