Erythropenia is a condition characterised by an abnormal decrease in the number of red blood cells in the body. An abnormal increase in the condition of RBCs is called polycythaemia. An abnormally low number of platelets slows down the process of blood coagulation and could lead to haemorrhage. An abnormal decrease in the number of white blood cells is called leucopenia.
