The following measures have been taken by the government to control growth rate of population.
a. Economic measures- The government is taking various economic measures to control the population in India. Some of these measures include expansion and growth in the industrial sector of the country, creation of job opportunities for more number of people, removal of poverty and illiteracy and much more. This in turn would lead to a rise in the standard of living of the people and will encourage them to have small families.
b. Social measures- The government has made efforts to improve the educational level of the society. This is because good education promotes women empowerment and also helps in the removal of social evils such as superstitions, orthodoxy and such more. Thus, these factors help the people to decide the socially desired size of the family and control population growth.
c. Family Planning Programmes- Family planning program was initiated by the government of India in 1952, in order to control the rising population in the country. This program emphasised on having a small family and controlling the size of a family through the use of contraceptives and spacing between the births. In the initial years of the program, mass media like radio and television were used to spread the idea and benefits of small family size. With the course of time, the program was launched across the country and many family planning centers were opened to provide counselling and contraceptives to people free of cost. Thus, promoting population control.
