The following are some of the major causes of unemployment in India.
a. Backward method of agriculture- The methods of agriculture used in India are old and backward. The productivity of land is also low and there is negligible scope of hiring more labourers. Thus, this contributes to unemployment.
b. Population growth- The rising rate of population and population explosion in India is creating widespread unemployment. The rate of growth of job opportunities is less than the rate of growth of workforce.
c. Lack of infrastructure- Infrastructural inadequacy impedes industrial growth. Low industrial growth rate, in turn, obstructs the generation of employment opportunities in a country.
d. Low economic growth- With low growth and development, India is unable to absorb the growing manpower in the country. This in turn increases unemployment.
e. Rural-urban migration- A large number of rural people migrate to towns in the search for employment opportunities. This increases the number of labourers willing to work in contrast to the jobs available. Thus, increasing unemployment.
