The following are some of the specific measures that the government of India took in order to alleviate poverty.
i. Rural Work Programme (RWP)- This programme was launched with the objective of generating employment opportunities in the rural areas by creating works such as construction, irrigation, soil conservation, etc.
ii. Minimum Needs Programme (MNP)- MNP was launched with the main objective to fulfill the basic needs of weaker sections of the society.
iii. Employment Guarantee Scheme- This scheme was launched by Maharashtra government to help the poor people by generating employment opportunities.
iv. Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP)- This programme was launched with the intention to provide financial assistance of the poor people by providing them sheep, bullock carts etc. at a low rate of interest.
Other such programmes as Draught Prone Area Programme (DPAP), Jawahar Rozgar Yojna (JRY), Indira Awas Yojna, Antyodaya Anna Yojna and many more were also taken by the government with the objective to alleviate poverty in India.
