Establish a relation between velocity, frequency and wavelength of the wave

Frequency wavelength and wave velocity are related as follows:

  1. Wave length is the distance travelled by the wave during the time a particle of the medium completes one vibration.
  2. Therefore, if λ be the wavelength and T the time period then the wave travels a distance λ and time T.

Hence,

,Wavevelocity=Time×Distancev=Tλv=νλ[T1=frequency(ν)]Wavevelocity=Frequency×Wavelength
