Iodoform test. Ethyl alcohol shows iodoform test since it is oxidised to ethanal/acetaldehyde(CH3CHO) with CH3-CO group where as methanol is oxidised to formaldehyde (HCHO) which doesn't contain CH3-CO group. Hence shows negative iodoform test
