Solution

The correct option is A acetaldehyde
Ethyne (HCCH) reacts with water in the presence of HgSO4 and H2SO4 to form acetaldehyde (CH3CHO).
HCCH+H2OHgSO4−−−H2SO4HCH=CHOH tautomerisation −−−−−−−−−CH3CHO
A molecule of water is added to CC triple bond. The intermediate enol tautomerises to aldehyde. Addition of water follows Markovnikov's rule. HgSO4 is used as catalyst.
