The correct option is D Non-availability of oxygen
Introduction to Accelerated eutrophication
Accelerated eutrophication is a type of eutrophication which is characterised by enrichment of water bodies with nutrients like nitrates and phosphates (due to influx of untreated sewage or effluent). This causes excessive growth of algae and phytoplankton. These organisms consume the dissolved oxygen (DO) for the purpose of photosynthesis, thus lowering the DO of the water. Thus the amount of oxygen for aquatic animals is reduced. Therefore, eutrophication of waterbodies leading to killing fishes is mainly due to the non-availability of oxygen.
Final answer
(A) Non-availability of oxygen
