Multiplication of decimals

First multiply the given decimals ignoring the decimal points

$$\begin{gathered} \Rightarrow 2\times 7 \\ \Rightarrow 14 \end{gathered}$$

Now, add the number of decimal places in each number . In the product obtained , place the decimal point after the same number of digits ( from right to left ) as the total number of decimal places.

Since , the total number of decimal places in the given decimals $=$$2$ ( $1$ in $0.2$ and $1$ in $0.7$ ) .

So ,we will place the decimal point after two digits from the right to left as $0.14$ .

Thus , $0.2\times 0.7$ = $0.14$ .
