Solution

Here, we use the concept of simplifying the expressions by opening brackets one by one and then using ‘BODMAS’.

Following are the steps to be followed:

  1. There are four types of brackets. The order of simplifying brackets is: (1) Bar or vinculum ¯ (2) Small brackets ( ) (3) Curly brackets { } (4) Square brackets [ ].
  2. After removing the brackets, simplification is to be done in the order of the letters of the word ‘BODMAS’. Here B, O, D, M, A, S stands for Brackets, Of, Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction respectively. Here in the expression, ‘Of’ is considered as multiplication but is operated before division or multiplication.

We have, 4.6of1.2+{6.3-(2.4×1.9×1.9)÷12}

=4.6of1.2+{6.3-8.664÷12}[Simplifyingsmallbrackets]=4.6of1.2+{6.3-0.722}[Dividing]=4.6of1.2+5.578[Simplifyingcurlybrackets]=5.52+5.578[Simplifying'Of']=11.098[Adding]

On simplifying 4.6of1.2+{6.3-(2.4×1.9×1.9)÷12}, we get 11.098.
