Step 1: The bottom numbers are different, To make it same take the L.C.M of 3 and 4

L.C.M of 3and 4 is 12

Step 2: Convert both the fraction into equivalent like fractions with their L.C.M as common denominator

43=4×43×4 =1612

14=1×34×3 =312

Step 3: Subtract the numerators and put the answer over the denominator

1612-312 =1312

Step 4 : Divide the line segment between the points 0 and 1,1 and 2 into 12 equal parts each ( Denominator is 12)

Step 5 :Each part will represent 112

Step 6 :Label the points 112,212, 312,412, 512, 612,712,812 ,912,1012, 1112between the points 0 and 1, 1312,1412, 1512,1612between the points 1 and 2 on the number line

Step 7 : Move sixteen parts on the right side of zero to reach 1612

Step 8 : Move three parts on the left side of 1612to reach 1312
