Question

Evaluate limx0f(x), where f(x)={|x|x,x00,x=0

Open in App
Solution

To find the limit at x=0 we should have
limx0f(x)=limx0+f(x)limx0f(x)
limx0f(x)=limx0|x|x=xx=1 since |x|=x for x<0
limx0+f(x)=limx0+|x|x=xx=1 since |x|=x for x>0
Thus, limx0f(x)limx0+f(x)
Hence, limx0f(x) does not exist.
