given, $3 x^{2} + 2 x - 1 = 0$
splitting $2 x$ into two parts.
$3 x^{2} + 3 x - x - 1 = 0$
$3 x (x + 1) - 1 (x + 1) = 0$

$(3 x - 1) (x + 1) = 0$

$x = \frac{1}{3}, - 1$
