Solution

The correct option is C Global warming

Nuclear power plants are used to generate electricity. In nuclear power plants, the heat produced by atomic fission is used to boil water into steam. The steam is then used to turn a turbine that drives generators to make electricity. It does not emit any greenhouse gases as it does not utilize fossil fuels like coal for heating and thus is considered to be the cleanest sources of energy. But, nuclear energy, though it appeared promising at first, raised serious concerns.

  • Radioactive waste is hazardous as it contains radioactive elements. It cannot be disposed like other solid wastes.
  • There are chances of radiation leakage from the reactor or from the wastes.
  • At higher doses radiation can lead to birth deformities in children. High exposure to radiation can also cause acute ration syndrome.

Global warming is the long-term heating of Earth's climate system observed since the pre-industrial period (between 1850 and 1900) due to human activities, primarily fossil fuel burning, which increases heat-trapping greenhouse gas levels in Earth's atmosphere.
