The pressure is directly proportional to the force and inversely proportional to area.
Ex-
The mattress exerts an upward force equal to the weight of the person in order to support. The same upward force will be exerted by the soft mattress and the hard floor on the person but the mattress exerts the support force over a larger area than the floor according to the person's shape and exerts less pressure on the person that hurts less than the hard floor.
