Bryophytes:

  1. The Phylum Bryophyta includes a nonvascular plant group.
  2. They are referred to as Amphibians of the plant kingdom.
  3. These plants develop in shady and moist places and need water for reproduction purposes.
  4. Liverworts, Hornworts, and Mosses are the three categories in which Bryophytes are divided.


Liverworts:

  1. The most primitive type of Bryophytes comes under this category.
  2. They show a thalloid type of body.
  3. No differentiation in roots, stems, or leaves can be seen.
  4. Examples, Marchantia, Riccia, etc.


Hornworts:

  1. Because of the presence of a long sporophyte that appears as horns, these plants are referred to as Hornworts.
  2. Thalloid, rosette type of body with the outgrowth of sporophytes are observed in these plants
  3. Examples, Anthoceros, Dendroceros, etc.

Mosses:

  1. Mosses do not have true roots but rhizoids.
  2. They have stem-like and leaf-like structures.
  3. Examples, Funaria, Polytrichum, etc.
