Mahatma Gandhi launched the Champaran satyagraha in 1917 and the Kheda satyagraha in 1918 in support of peasants. Champaran is in Bihar and Kheda in Gujarat. In both places, peasants suffered from heavy taxation. Mahatma Gandhi succeeded in getting the tax burden reduced in both places.
In 1918, mahatma Gandhi also launched a movement in Ahmedabad in support of the mill workers there. The movement was in support of higher wages for the mill workers. He even decided to go on a fast in support of the workers. The mill owners finally had to agree to increase the wages of workers.
