1. AIDS stands for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome.
2. It is a fatal disease that is caused by a virus called HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus).
3. This virus damages the immune system of the body and the body becomes incapable to fight against diseases and infections.

Methods of transmission of the virus are -

1. By sharing syringes between normal and infected people.
2. From an infected mother to an infant through milk.
3. Through a disc called the placenta which connects the infected mother and the fetus.
4. Through unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected person.
