OPV: Oral Poliovirus Vaccines
OPV is a type of polio vaccine which is given orally in the form of liquid droplets to children below 6 years and above 2 months infant.
- Vaccines are given to build immunity against the disease.
- Polio is also known as Poliomyelitis is a disease which is caused by Poliovirus, it is a deadly disease that causes paralysis, transmitted through fecal contaminated water and food or contact with an infected person.
- OPV will have a live attenuated virus and a mixture of three strains of viruses.
- According to CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention a government organization) recommends four doses, the first dose at 2 months old, the second dose at 4 months old, the third dose at 6 through 18 months old, and the fourth dose at 4 through 6 years old
