Dear Student,
Parliament of India is divided into two houses.
1. Rajya Sabha: This is the upper house of Parliament. Members are elected indirectly and twelve members are nominated by the President. Each member has a term of six years. A third of members retire every two years. There are currently 245 members in the Rajya Sabha.
2. Lok Sabha: This is the lower house of Parliament. Members are elected directly for a term of five years. It is the more powerful house of Parliament. The government needs to have a majority in the Lok Sabha to be able to function. There are currently 545 seats in the Lok Sabha.
