Solution
Eutrophication is a process of natural aging of the lake due to nutrient enrichment leading to the growth of algal blooms. This process is however accelerated due to humans' activities involving dumping and discharge of organic matter or domestic wastes and industrial effluents into the water body. This is called accelerated or cultural eutrophication. It's consequences include
Depletion of dissolved oxygen causing the death of aquatic life.
Reduced penetration of light in deep water levels, hampering the productivity of underwater plants.
