Solution:
The Himalayan river systems namely, the Indus, Ganga and Brahmaputra have deposited a large amount of soil in the northern plains over a large period of time. These soils are extensively found in the northern plains and in some parts of Rajasthan and Gujarath as well. This soil is very fertile as it contributes to the agriculture in India. And it is composed of alluvium. This soil is called alluvial soil. And these are also formed by the deposition of sea waves in the coastal plains especially, in the deltas of Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna and Kaveri rivers. The soil covers an area of about 15 Lakh sq. km. The main type of crops grown in this soil is Sugarcane, Paddy, Wheat, cotton, Jute, Potato, and Vegetables.
