Explain anaemia

Anaemia:

  1. It is a decrease in the total amount of red blood cells (RBCs) or haemoglobin in the blood.
  2. It is a condition that develops when our blood lacks enough healthy red blood cells or haemoglobin.
  3. If we have too few or abnormal red blood cells, or our haemoglobin is abnormal or low, the cells in our body will not get enough oxygen.
  4. Having anaemia may make us feel tired and weak and a lack of energy.
  5. Other common symptoms may include paleness of skin, fast or irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, chest pain, headache, etc.

Types of

anaemia

:

  • Anaemia caused by blood loss
  • Anaemia caused by decreased or faulty red blood cell production.
  • Anaemia caused by destruction of red blood cells

Causes of blood loss:

  • It happens due to trauma and gastrointestinal bleeding.

Causes of decreased production:

  • It happens due to iron deficiency, lack of vitamin B12 , thalassemia, etc.

Causes of increased breakdown:

  • Causes include a number of genetic conditions such as sickle cell anaemia, infections like malaria, and certain autoimmune diseases.
