Five features of the national population policy 2000 are:

1. It provides for free and mandatory school education upto the age of 14.
2. It aims to reduce infant mortality rate to less than 30 per 1000 births.
3. It aims to reduce the maternal mortality rate to less than 100 per 100,000 births.
4. It seeks to achieve 100% registration of births, deaths, marriages and pregnancies.
5. It seeks to promote 20 years as the right age of marriage for girls.
