Question

Explain any one case when no work is done by a force.

Solution

No work or Zero work is defined as when force and displacement are perpendicular to one another and when force or displacement is zero.

There are two conditions are for work to be zero are:

  1. When there is no displacement i.e. S = 0
  2. When the displacement is normal to the direction of the force.

i.e. θ = 90°

Example:

  1. If you push a wall, it doesn’t move. That means you are applying force on the wall but the wall does not displace from its mean position i.e., you aren't getting displacement after applying force on the wall.
  2. So in this case, we can say that no work is done by a force.
