Solution

In some species of plants, it is ensured that cross-pollination takes place instead of self-pollination because continued self-pollination can lead to inbreeding depression.
There are many ways by which it can be done. Some of them include:
1. Pollen grain and stigma receptivity are not synchronized. Either the pollen is released before the stigma becomes receptive or the stigma becomes receptive much before the pollen are released from the anthers.
2. Anther and stigma are placed at different positions so that the pollen cannot come in direct contact with stigma.
