There are total 32 teeth present in human. These are basically of 4 types, incisors, canines, premolars and molars. Each tooth is located at particular place and has a particular function. Each tooth is embedded in the maxilla (upper jaw) or the mandible (lower jaw) and is covered by gums. Humans are diphyodont. They have two sets of teeth. The first set are called milk teeth. The second set are called permanent teeth. The dental formula for primary teeth is 2.1.0.2 / 2.1.0.2. There are total 20 teeth in the set. There are 2 central incisors, 2 lateral incisors, 2 canines and 4 molars in upper and lower jaw respectively. The dental formula for permanent teeth is 2.1.2.3 / 2.1.2.3. There are total 32 teeth in the set. The arrangement of teeth is 2 central incisor, 2 lateral incisor, 2 canine, 4 premolar and 6 molar in upper and lower jaw respectively.
