Question

explain atomic size of group 14 element

Open in App
Solution

Atomic size of group 14 elements increases down the group. i.e., it increases from C, Si, Ge,Sn, Pb. The reason is they are having a general electronic configuration of ns2np2. The shell number increases on moving down the number. That is why the distance between the nucleus and the valence shell increases and the size increases.
