Red soil is generally red in colour due to its high iron content. It is formed by weathering of ancient crystalline and metamorphic rocks.
It is mainly found in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, north-eastern states, and more.
Major crops grown in this soil are Cotton, wheat, pulses, millets, and bajra.
