Solution
Graphite is one of the crystalline allotropes of Carbon.
It has a layered structure in which each Carbon atom is bonded with three other Carbon atoms forming a layer of hexagonal rings which is bonded with other layers by weak forces of attraction.
Due to its layered structure, Graphite has one valence of electrons which makes Graphite a good conductor of electricity.
Graphite is also resistant to many chemicals.
Because of the above reasons Graphite is used in the manufacture of refractory crucibles.
