Transpiration and photosynthesis are interlinked during daytime. Stomata open due to the turgid guard cells and exchange of gases takes place. One of the raw materials for photosynthesis, carbon dioxide is taken in. Meanwhile, water vapours are also evaporated from the stomata, resulting in transpiration. This loss of water from the guard cells makes them flaccid, due to which stomata close and the osmotic pressure inside them decreases. This again leads to the pulling up of water from other cells and in this way, transpirational pull is maintained.
