Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease of humans and other animals caused by a parasitic protozoan (a group of single-celled microorganism) belonging to the genus Plasmodium.

Malaria is spread by the bite of an infected Anopheles mosquito.

High fever with shivering and sweating is the major symptom of malaria. The infected person also experiences extreme fatigue, vomiting, diarrhoea, anaemia and headache.
