Fish culture is the process of raising desirable species of fishes in captivity and managing them and their environment to improve growth and reproduction.

Composite fish culture:

  1. Composite fish culture is a technique in which five or six different types of fish species are cultured together in a single pond.
  2. Fishes with their different food habitats are selected and cultivated so they don't fight with each other for food resources.
  3. This provides the guarantee that the supply of food resources in the pond are completely utilized.

Fishes used in this system include:

  1. Surface feeders: Catla, Silver carp.
  2. Column feeders: Rohu.
  3. Bottom feeders: Mrigal and common carp.
