Solution

An electrochemical cell is a device which can convert the chemical energy to electrical energy. A good example is Daniel cell.

Daniel cell consists of 2 half cells:
A Zn rod placed in contact with ZnSO4 & a Cu metal in contact with CuSO4 solution. These are connected by salt bridge consisting a saturated solution of either KCl,KNO3orNH4NO3.
(Refer to Image)

Cell reactions:
At Anode :
Zn(s)Zn2+(aq)+2e (Oxidation)

At Cathode :
Cu2+(aq)+2eCu(s) (Reduction)
________________________________________________
Overall reaction,
Zn(s)+Cu2+(aq)Zn2+(aq)+Cu(s)
