There are basically three types of fibres or muscle fibres :-
1. Striated muscle are cylindrical unbranched and voluntary muscle fibres. They contract rapidly and soon undergo fatigue. These muscles are present in parts such as tongue, hand and legs etc.
2. Smooth muscle are cylindrical, unbranched and involuntary muscles fibres. They contract slowly and do not undergo fatigue. These muscles controls the movement of food in the alimentary canal, the contraction and relaxation of the blood vessels.
3. Cardiac muscle cylindrical, branched and involuntary muscle fibres. They contract rapidly but do not undergo fatigue. These muscles control the contraction and relaxation of the heart.
