Solution

Dear student,
  1. Ox-bow lakes are U-shaped lakes formed in the lower course of the river. In this stage, the meander becomes highly pronounced and at a stage the river cuts through the narrow neck of the loop of the meander forming an ox-bow lake.
  2. A lagoon is a shallow water body separated from a larger body of water like the sea by some natural barrier like a reef or an island. Lagoons are frequently found in coastal regions around the world. In India, lagoons are most widely found in Kerala where they are attractive tourist destinations. A closely related water body to lagoon is an estuary. The difference is that lagoons contain salt water and, hence, is mostly found near oceans and seas. On the other hand, estuaries mostly contain freshwater and are found near rivers.
  3. A glacial lake is a lake that originates in a melted glacier. They are formed when a glacier erodes the land, and then melts, filling the hole or space that it has created.
  4. Tectonic plates are massive lithosphere plates that form the base of the continents and ocean floors. These plates are constantly moving at the rate of few centimetres every year. It is the convection currents below the plates that cause these motions that in turn are caused by radioactive decay taking place inside the earth.
The edges of these tectonic plates are the hub of geological activities in the form of earthquakes, volcanoes, and formations of mountains.
