Explain different types of mechanical waves

On the basis of direction of vibration of particles of medium, a mechanical wave can be classified as- Transversal wave - A mechanical wave which sets the particles of medium into vibration such that the direction of vibrations is perpendicular to the direction of propagation of wave.
Longitudinal wave - A mechanical wave which sets the particles of medium into vibration such that the direction of vibrations is parallel to the direction of propagation of wave.
