Three major types of potential energies are-

Elastic potential energy: Elastic potential energy is Potential energystored as a result of deformation of an elasticobject, such as the stretching of a spring. It is equal to the work done to stretch the spring

Gravitational potential energy: energy possesed by the virtue of position(say with respect to earth)

Chemical potential energy: form of potential energy that can be absorbed or released during a chemical reaction.
